9th Annual Upperclass World Series - Playoff Recap

Tampa, FL - The 9th Annual World Series Upperclass was held at the Lawnwood Baseball Complex in Fort Pierce, FL on July 14th. The quarterfinal matchups were: FCA 17U vs GT Clowns 18U, Empire Baseball 17U vs Atlanta Bluejays 17U, Columbus Baseball 17U vs Mets Scout Team Upperclass and Boca Thunder Baseball 16U vs Freshwater Storm 18U Red.

            The GT Clowns 18U faced FCA 17U and came up on top with a 10-9 win. Kenny Gomez had a stand out game for the Clowns going 2-3 with an RBI and a stolen base. Ozzy Osceola went 2-2 with 2 RBI’s.

            Empire Baseball 17U fell to the Atlanta Bluejays 17U 15-4. Nathan Martinez went 3-3 at the plate with a walk and 3 RBI’s. Joel Draggo went 3-4 with a double. Reece Williams pitched 2 and 2/3 innings and only gave up 1 hit and punched out 4.

            Columbus Baseball 17U went up against the Mets Scout Team Upperclass. The Mets took the game 4-2. Jack Savery went 2-3 with a stolen base. Gabe Morin and Preston Keen both went 2-3 with an RBI. Julian Jennings went 1-2 with a triple and pushed across 2 runs. Max Marzolf pitched 5 complete innings with 7 K’s and did not allow a run.

            The Boca Thunder Baseball 18U faced Freshwater Storm 18U Red. The Storm won 6-2. Tyler Madl went 2-3 and put 2 runs on the board for the Storm. The winning pitcher was Spencer Mangum. He pitched a complete game and only gave up 2 runs with 4 strikeouts.

            The winners of the quarterfinal games advanced and were matched as follows: Freshwater Storm 18U Red vs GT Clowns 18U and Mets Scout Team Upperclass vs Atlanta Bluejays 17U.

            The Freshwater Storm 18U Red took the second game versus GT Clowns 18U 6-2. Garrit Smith went 1-1 with 2 RBI’s. Jason Woodward K’d 8 hitters in 6 frames of work.

            Mets Scout Team Upperclass beat the Atlanta Bluejays 5-3. TJ Cox went 2-3 with a total of 3 stolen bases in the game. Gabe Morin went 1-2 at the plate with a double and 2 RBI’s. Gabe Morin was on the bump for 3 innings with 3 strikeouts and no runs.

            The Mets Scout Team Upperclass faced the Freshwater Storm 18U Red in the Championship game of the tournament. The Mets Scout Team came up on top 4-3 for the win. Max Marzolf went 2-4 with an RBI. Gabe Morin went 1-3 with a double and an RBI. Cole Iken was the winning pitcher in relief of Dale Francis. Francis went 6 innings with 3 runs and 2 strikeouts.
