World Finals East 15U Championship: Riverhawks blank the Juice
By: Lisa Gallo |

JUPITER, FL - Right-hander Jack Becker had a complete game shutout and led the CBC Riverhawks to a 3-0 win over Chet Lemon’s Juice in the World Finals East 15U Championship game at 11:30 a.m. at Roger Dean Complex.

Left-hander Andrew Baker got the start for the Juice. Joshua Moser led the Riverhawks off with a walk, but was caught stealing second for the first out. Baker then struck out outfielder Dillon Reed and forced Anthony Farmand to ground out to shortstop to end the inning.

Becker worked efficiently for the Riverhawks with three consecutive strike outs to end the first.

After one quick out, infielder Jordan Tylski scorched a base hit over to the left side and then proceeded to take second base on a pass ball. Joey Bend followed with a line drive down the middle, advancing Tylski to third. Bryson Tuttle reached on an error, allowing Tylski to score and the Riverhawks to get on the board first in the top of the second.

Third baseman Garrett Milchin led off with a single to leftfield. Becker recorded his fourth strike out in 1.2 innings by getting Rylan Thomas swinging. Chet Lemon’s Juice catcher, Drayden Williams, hit into an inning-ending double play.

At the top of the third, Nick Kelly hit a triple to right field, scoring on Joshua Moser’s grounder to short. The Riverhawks extended their lead, 2-0. With two outs, the Juice decided on a pitching change and RHP Brandon Reitz took the mound. Reitz hit the first batter he faced, Cole Perry. After two pass balls by the Juice’s catcher, the Riverhawks scored again to make it 3-0.

Jonathan Burkett led off the bottom of the third with a single over the shortstop’s head. Austin Bergner then advanced the runner on a sac bunt. Designated hitter Jack Kirkpatrick singled to the right side. Becker quickly got the last two outs and the Juice stranded two runners.

Bend led off the fourth with a single up the middle, followed by a double to right field by Tuttle. Bend attempted to steal home, but was thrown out. Right-handed pitcher, Austin Bergner took the mound for the Juice and recorded the final two outs.

Chet Lemon’s Juice went three up, three down to end the fourth.

Bergner worked quickly and recorded three consecutive outs to start the fifth, including one K.

Williams led off the bottom of the inning with a single to left field. He advanced to second on a ground out by Burkett, followed by a strike out by Bergner. Kirkpatrick lined the ball to right field, but Williams was thrown out at the plate to end the inning.

Bergner struck out Farmand to start the sixth, but then gave up two singles to Perry and Tylski. Then, Bend grounded out into a double play to end the top of the sixth.

The score remained 3-0 as Becker recorded three speedy outs to end the sixth. The Riverhawks went three up, three down with two strikeouts to begin the seventh.

With one last chance to take the title, the Juice got up to the plate. Berkett hit a base hit to left field, but the Juice came out empty handed and were shut down by the Riverhawks.

Congratulations to the CBC Riverhawks: the World Finals East 15U champs!
