SARASOTA, FL - The playoffs have commenced and there is just a different kind of buzz in the atmosphere here at the Prospect Wire Florida State Finals. The players seem to be playing harder, coaches getting more intense and parents cheering even louder.
Most of the top seeds won in the round of 16 and now move on to the round of 8. Each team that makes it to the round of 8 in both the 16U and 18U divisions will play a doubleheader today. This will test both the stamina of the position players, as well as the depth of each teams pitching staff.
The semi-finals and finals for both 16U and 18U will be held tomorrow at the Ed Smith Complex/Stadium. Meaning that the teams that make it to the finals will have played back-to-back days of doubleheaders.
The players’ stamina isn’t the only thing being tested as the Prospect Wire staff is running on little sleep. Worn down from the day in and day out grind of running the tournament in the energy-draining Florida sun, the staff is looking forward to being able to stay in the A/C and get a full night of sleep.
“I have had maybe eight hours of sleep since the tournament started,” said National Director of Events Brian Werner.
