Boca Raton, FL - After going unbeaten the first 3 days of the Florida Bombers Showdown, PW 18U was feeling confident heading into this morning's quarterfinal matchup vs. the Cape Coast Canes.  "Sometimes you just have those days where you run into better pitching.  We had one of those days today," said Coach Paul Giambalvo.  "Both their pitchers were similar, and they just hit their spots all game.  We only managed 4 hits against those guys.  They had one big inning and we just could not recover.  The guys played great though.  I think we will only get better this summer."

The one big inning came in the 3rd, when the Canes plated 5 runs, mostly coming by way of seeing eye singles and dropped in base hits.  "They found every hole on the field today.  It happens.  We played well, they just played better," remarked Giambalvo. 

A lot of positives came out of this, just their 2nd event playing together.  "I have to tip my cap to a lot of these kids.  They come to these teams, and some of them play the same position.  So it's hard to determine who is the right guy to play which position.  Guys like Spencer (Gilleon), Kyle (Kunnen) and Brandon (Meadows) were all playing out of position.  But they came to me and told me they were fine with it.  They were so easy to coach," exclaimed Giambalvo.

Excellent defensive efforts were turned in all weekend by players like Spencer Gilleon, Matt Bowers, Brandon Meadows and K'Shawn Smith.  With most guys having to play out of position at various times, they all adjusted well to their secondary roles. 

"The great thing is they didn't complain.  They enjoyed the challenge.  They were coming to me, telling me it was okay," said Giambalvo.

After a positive start to the summer, PW 18U heads to Kissimmee, FL on June 17th - 20th for the Mizuno Wood Bat Challenge.  Both of Prospectwire's teams will be entered into this wood bat tournament.  Games start on the afternoon of June 17th, with the schedule set to be released early this week.  Stay tuned for more details...
